GlobeCast, the Paris-based worldwide broadcast service company, has selected Pharos Playtime and Mediator for a new playout and media management facility in the heart of London. In so doing, the company has consolidated under one roof a range of services previously provided from various locations, creating a true broadcast centre for its clients.
GlobeCast's London office and technical hub is one of 18 GlobeCast locations providing worldwide delivery of permanent channels, news coverage and sporting events alongside a host of value-added services. It offers a full range of solutions to global broadcasters of all sizes. GlobeCast also offers media management solutions from its facility in Sunrise, Florida which it shares with HBO Latin America. The company has just celebrated its 10th anniversary; in those ten years it has transitioned from being a satellite services company to a full service content management and delivery operation. Its new broadcast centres are the latest example of the companys increased capability.
"We have to a large extent automated processes which were formerly very labour-intensive and spread out," comments Carl Petch, Content Management Facility Manager at GlobeCast UK. "After making a very careful study of available technology, GlobeCast UK chose Pharos Mediator with Playtime automation. Vital advantages for us include the systems ease-of-use, and its ability to expand with our growing business. Playtime shares the same database and applications servers as Mediator; it is a nice clean fit. Mediator also has the great advantage of being modular so we can expand its functionality in line with maturing business. Mediator has proved very popular with our operators, each of whom can access the system from their desktop. It assigns to each operator the Roles and Tasks they need. Being web-based, the user interface is easily networked and easily reconfigured if we need to make incremental changes to our work-pattern. The Pharos support team are able to implement ongoing changes and upgrades quickly and can give us support online 24/7 time when needed."
"Mediator with Playtime automation provides a platform to unify content management and playout, which were previously disparate systems and processes" comments Russell Grute, at Pharos. "It can accommodate existing and future third party technology in areas like storage, media formats, transcoding and creative services. Mediator offers a highly configurable and straightforward roles-and-tasks based approach to workflow design that provides each operator with the precise information required to prepare content for both transmission and wider publishing."
