Pharos Mediator Library Management

Mediator streamlines library operations and increases efficiency by tracking the movement and storage of tapes and other physical media as part of the workflow.

Mediator Library Management delivers

  • Web based tape library management
  • Loans tracking in and out
  • Fast tape location
  • Efficient management of shelf space

Integrate your library with your content management

Tape handling is easily ignored in the fast changing media world. Many operations large and small rely on disjointed and often manual processes for tracking tapes. As a business grows, the amount of tape handling increases and the disparate associated processes can lead to missing tapes. This can cause high and unpredictable costs for tape replacement and duplication.

Whether your operation is handling a few tapes for different clients, or storing thousands of tapes for managing an archive, Pharos Mediator Library Management is a practical solution for managing and tracking tape movements and locations. Being part of the Mediator Platform means the Library Management is closely integrated with the content management system. Thus the physical library becomes part of the business workflow and subject to the same controls and safeguards. Mediator Library will quickly become integral to your day to day tape handling operations.

Better access to the library

However a tape library is used, the one constant is that keeping track of the material to make it easy to retrieve and re-use can be extremely difficult.

Pharos recognises that tapes and other physical media are just as important an asset as a digital file. Both are of value to the business and with tape still predominantly being the source of original material for the digital domain, it is beneficial for a MAM system to regard both the physical and digital libraries as one entity. Assets in the library may not necessarily be tape-based, but could be DVD, CD or other physical media. Mediator allows all physical media to co-exist in the library and be stored and tracked in the same way.

Efficient media logistics

Handling and tracking large volumes of physical media is no longer a problem. Using simple on screen information and barcode identifiers, media arriving in a library can be quickly booked in to a new location or returned to its home location. The library's workflow is made even more efficient with the use of a wireless bar-code scanner connected to Mediator. Operators can now carry out library tasks on the move, removing the need to return to a dedicated workstation and speeding up the task of media logistics.

Mediator generates emails and despatch notes automatically, acknowledging to users that tapes are ready or due for return.

Direct integration with your workflow

By integrating Mediator's database with workflow for Library Management, an organisation can improve access to unlimited amounts of distributed physical media by managing storage and locations. Mediator's multi-lingual web user interface also enables remote search and review of all library material.

Library operations are directly integrated with the Mediator content management database and workflow. Mediator generates emails or despatch notes automatically to allow items to be removed securely from the library or "booked out" (e.g. screening copies of source material for a promotions department)

By removing the need to access multiple applications operator errors are significantly reduced, therefore controlling the costs associated with fixing mistakes.

Consistent user experience

The Library management role within Mediator offers a series of intuitive user interfaces that are integrated with downstream processes and tasks such as media registration and ingest requests. This allows workflow to start immediately upon receipt of media items. For media registration operators are guided by an on-screen form to manually enter material metadata such as title, episode number and multi language tracks, saving the details of media, material and all components to the Mediator database.
