Pharos Mediator Barcode Management for Ingest.jpg

By labelling each item of physical media in the library with barcodes, tapes or discs can be identified securely anywhere in the business, enabling increases in efficiency in Library and Ingest. Barcodes can be generated by 3rd party acquisition and traffic information systems, or by Mediator.

Handle multiple media more efficiently

  • Manages tapes, discs and memory
  • Minimise errors when handling media

Mediator provides many capabilities to digitise material efficiently including Live Record, Flexicart Control and Electronic File Delivery. The Pharos rack mount Barcode Reader significantly streamlines ingest operations when handling large amounts of media manually.

Integration with Mediator Library and Ingest

A Barcode Reader is mounted above each VTR and media is scanned immediately prior to being inserted into the VTR. By notifying Mediator of the start of a new ingest job and the details of the tape being ingested the chance of media misidentification is now removed.

Mediator prioritises multiple ingest jobs based on the order of the material segments on the tape which can also be communicated directly from the traffic system. This significantly reduces shuttling and cueing times which speeds ingest and also increases the life span of both tapes and VTR's.

The barcode scanner has an integrated display which provides real-time status about the ingest process. This removes the need for ingest operators to remain near their workstation to view ingest status and errors.

After ingest, multiple files can be rewrapped in parallel, enabling content to be processed much faster than traditional systems.
